Sushi Cat 2: The Great Purrade Review

The wildly successful Sushi Cat game was a hit when it was released by Armor Games, and the foreseeable sequel has been released this week, with the pun-tastic name Sushi Cat 2: The Great Purrade. Also available in the App Store.

Improved graphics on a sequel? Check.

This time around our furry and fat friend is happily married, but manages to loose is wife in a great parade, and so, it will be your duty to man up and go find her, and to do so, you'll need to clear many many levels of Sushi Cat action.

For those of you unfamiliar with this IP, it is a puzzle game based on a Chinese Luck Game, where you let a ball fall into a box with many pins, hoping for it to fall on a specific area at the bottom. But here, its the cat you drop, trying to make it eat all the sushi that is placed on the box, while it bounces around happily only getting fatter and fatter.

To pass each level you need to eat a certain number of sushi, but there is more to that. There is special sushi  that you need to collect to unlock some cat costumes (yes, cat costumes, deal with it), and a score mechanism to keep you a little more entertained.

We'll go onto that moustache latter.

The remarkable gameplay mechanic in Sushi Cat is the bounciness. The cat is, mostly due to his body fat I'd say, quite bouncy. So the dropping mechanics aren't as simply as they initially look, specially when you realize that the more sushi the cat eats and the fatter he gets, the more he will bounce of obstacles. Some of these obstacles mind you, are mobile, which only adds to some level depth.

The music is quite what you expect for a puzzle game, but the art stands out as being extremely cute and lively. I mean, look at my cat, it is rocking a moustache, like a bauss!

Putting it short, Sushi Cat 2 is a solid puzzle game sure to entertain you for a long time, so be sure to try it out. The only drawback its the lack in innovation so often noticed in puzzle games sequels.

Game Rating: 8/10
